You wash your face, apply moisturizer, and your skin still feels dry, rough, and uncomfortably tight? An hour later it's the same feeling again, and you start wondering what you're doing wrong.
Usually the problem isn't that your moisturizer is too weak. Dry skin doesn't need one powerful product. It needs several thin layers that work together to keep water locked in. That's the idea behind Korean skincare: you hydrate your skin step by step, instead of relying on one thick layer of cream.
Start With What Not to Do
One thing often ruins the whole effect: water that's too hot and a cleanser that foams too much. Both strip away your skin's natural protection before you've even applied anything. Wash your face with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, and that alone can noticeably improve how your skin feels.
Three Layers That Make the Difference
Toner on damp skin. Pat it in with your hands right after cleansing, while your skin is still slightly damp. Look for hyaluronic acid, for example in Isntree toners. Its job is to hydrate, not just to refresh.
A serum that soothes and repairs. Look out for Centella asiatica (cica), for example in SKIN1004 products, and for ceramides. Centella calms irritation, while ceramides help restore your skin's protective barrier.
A cream that seals in moisture. For dry skin, choose a richer formula than the one you use in summer.
In the morning, finish with SPF, for example Beauty of Joseon. Dry skin gets irritated more easily, so sun protection matters even more.
Once a Week: A Sheet Mask
A sheet mask, gives your skin an extra boost of hydration. Ten minutes is enough, and afterwards your skin feels soft and smooth.
